The pleasures of nature
Staying at Le Barn, in the heart of the Rambouillet Forest, means a wide range of outdoor activities.
Riders, cyclists, walkers, yoga enthusiasts, experienced runners and those who simply enjoy sport on a Sunday, Le Barn offers everyone the ideal conditions to get away from it all. Each to their own, within the limits of the estate or beyond. Fitness trails and other facilities have been created specially for all our guests. Paris might only be 45 km away but it has never seemed so far…
A Paradise for horses
Wherever you look at Le Barn, there are horses. A veritable paradise for riders of all levels, you could almost believe that the Rambouillet Forest was created for riding.
Backing onto the Haras de la Cense stud, a major centre for the relationship between man and horse, Le Barn offers guests the opportunity to experience a personalized horse riding, as well as initiations to an approach of the animal on foot and on horseback, based on equestrian techniques and the knowledge on the horse’s nature revealed from the science of behavior: ethology.
Neophyte or expert, alone, as a couple, with family or friends, there is a ‘horse experience’ made for you. Relaxation and sensations are guaranteed.
La Cense’s team introduces children and adults to our approach to the horse, respectful of its well-being. Discover all our horse riding offers and activities on la Cense’s website.
The greens behind the woods
Less than 2 km from Le Barn lies another world, a world of fairways, rough, bunkers and greens. The Château de Rochefort 18 hole Golf Course recalls those of Scotland. Designed by the English architect Fred Hawtree this 5,627 metre-long wooded course is open year-round. Between your trips to Le Barn make life easy and leave your clubs in our Vestiaire.
Walking the trails
As soon as you step out of your room at Le Barn, you enter another world. The rustle of oak leaves, the scent of mushrooms, a glimpse of the deer: the forest is a place of enchantment.
Although there are plenty of opportunities for walks within the estate itself, the surrounding area is crossed by many local and long distance footpaths. The GR1®, renowned as encircling the Ile-de-France region, winds its way nearby, between the Rambouillet Forest and the Chevreuse Valley.
Alternatively, walk a section of the GR655®, one of the long distance footpaths to Santiago de Compostela, that traverses Bonnelles.
Calling all cyclists…
Le Barn has such a passion for the bike that it organises a group ride from the Porte Maillot to the hotel every Friday evening. Whether you prefer track racing or muddy trails, a slalom through the forest or tarmac roads, it is a cyclist’s paradise here on the edge of the Chevreuse Valley.
Bonnelles is also traversed by the cycle track leading from Notre-Dame de Paris to Mont Saint-Michel (the Véloscénie). Between two trips to Le Barn simply leave your bike in the safety of our Vestiaire.
Up and running
The managers at Le Barn are enthusiastic runners, so it is little surprise that they have trails near the hotel.
Measuring five, ten and fifteen kilometres, they are ideal for early morning joggers, or those who want to really stretch themselves. The forest and surrounding area also offer a wide range of other possibilities including a superb 17 km trail that follows the route of the Quatre Châteaux race.
Enjoy the great outdoors
Le Barn has petanque bowls, badminton rackets, footballs, frisbees, croquet mallets and the pins for playing mölkky, together with a great range of other outdoor games and accessories, all at your disposal. Rods and bait are also available for those who enjoy fishing, the only obligation is to release any fish caught.
Enjoy relaxing indoors
What better after a long ride or run through the forest than to settle comfortably in front of a good film. Le Barn has a small projection room so that you can get together with the family to watch some of the great classics of French and international cinema (Louis de Funès, Charlie Chaplin and James Bond collections, musicals, etc).
Or relax next to our central wood-burner and read one of the many works from the hotel’s library whilst the children explore the dressing-up box…
Enjoy the unexpected
The magic of hearing a stag roar in the early morning mist, setting out to pick mushrooms, the pleasure of an informal lunch, hiding away in a tree-house to read or falling asleep in a hammock strung between two silver birches.
Unusual, original but always enjoyable, the activities at Le Barn follow your desires and the changing seasons.
